BECOMING CONFIDENT: HOW TO FIND AUTHENTICITY

1. Spend time with yourself: What is your personality? What do you enjoy? What do you dislike? Be honest with your voice-let it speak-listen to your conscience and analyze what it means-what are your thoughts on different situations? Be authentic with yourself and then you will be able to be authentic with others.

2. Reflect on your experiences: Experiences are the pearl drops of wisdom life drops at your feet and you need to absorb each one to be able to learn from within. It takes time-it may hurt, it may sting, but ultimately it will heal and it will enable you to see clearer visions of your destiny. For instance, ever been through a bad break up? What did that teach you? Don’t hide from it-reflect on it and think about what went wrong-what you and your ex did wrong, what you and your ex could have done right-this will enable you to be able to move forward into new paths-not littered with the same mistakes of the past.

3. Take tiny steps to build your destiny:  Now that you have spent time with yourself, become comfortable with your voice, reflected on your experiences, you will be able to engage more naturally with your reality. You will find paths that open up for you through your thinking on how to build bridges from your dreams into reality. How? For instance, you may have discovered you like music, maybe you enjoy classical music for instance, and then from this point, you can reflect on your experiences in this area-like for instance, have you ever tried to learn more about classics? What did that entail? What did you learn? Now you channel those experiences into destiny-for instance, you take a class, you start a blog, you start small, and remain consistent and eventually you grow in the process.

4. Authenticity shines through consistency:  Once you have taken these tiny steps to destiny, through blogging, music, writing, singing, or whatever else you have learned from your past experiences, you will notice that as you remain consistent, you learn more about how to be authentic because you will have connected your passion with consistency-that is the channel that allows your destiny to flow into your reality.

5. Remain realistic: This is one of the most important parts of these tips: you need to remain realistic. Just because no one appreciates your music, dance, art, singing, writing, does not mean you are not authentic. Don’t give in to the pressure around you. Allow yourself to be built through disappointment. Don’t expect overnight success-that happens for no one-it is a lot of work and commitment, and consistency, and this will allow you to grow in the process. As you remain realistic, and maintain your authenticity, the path of progress will open up into a more beneficial reality. So stick with it!

--

Q: What has been your journey with authenticity?

Tip: You need to find yourself first before you can find your calling-so start dating you-you enjoy music-sing, learn, share and connect with yourself in the process-that is how you birth your authenticity into your reality.

THE WILDERNESS SERIES: MANNA

Matthew 4:1-4: (NIV)
Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness
Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted[a] by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’[b]”

Deuteronomy 8:1-5: (NIV)
Do Not Forget the Lord
Be careful to follow every command I am giving you today, so that you may live and increase and may enter and possess the land the Lord promised on oath to your ancestors. Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord

The Word the LORD used against the devil the first time he was tested in the wilderness, was, Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. (Matthew 4:4).
This Word is in reference to Deuteronomy 8:3:

Deuteronomy 8:3: (NIV)
He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord

This is important-Christ used a Word that spoke to the Israelites in the wilderness for His own protection while walking through the wilderness as well. This means, the LORD will speak a Word into your life that is directly applicable to your situation in your wilderness season.

And this Word, in Deuteronomy 8:3 is based on the passage above which is not to forget God. When we go through a wilderness period, we tend to forget the LORD. We fail to understand that the purpose of the wilderness is to be tested. Notice the LORD led the Israelites through the wilderness for forty years and Christ fasted forty days and forty nights. Hence there is a correlation.

And in Deut. 8, we are told to be careful to follow every command so that we may live and increase and enter and posses the land…First we need to follow the command. So what command has the LORD given you in the wilderness-is it to be still and know that He is God (Psalm 46:10). Or is it to trust in the LORD and lean not on your own understanding? (Prov. 3:5) What is the Word the LORD has released-what did He say to you? You need to seek His face to hear His response. The wilderness season comes from a testing of obedience-the Spirit led the LORD into the wilderness. (Matt. 4:1) Hence the first question you should ask yourself is are you being led by the LORD? Secondly, Christ fasted forty days and nights (Matt. 4:2)-what has the LORD separated you from through His leadership-when we walk with God-we are set apart-so what is that fasting that has caused you to hunger? This will lead to the third step: the encounter-the manna.

This will be the manna that you will use against the enemy when he speaks as Christ did. This is because as the Word says it is a spiritual source not a manly one. This is why this manna will have been unknown to your ancestors-it is between you and God. This manna is a lesson. It shows you that truly, only God delivers not man.
After you follow the command, you will live and increase. (Deut 8:1)
This means you will live through the wilderness, and increase from it. It is an inner work because then you will enter and possess the land. (James 1:3) How? Because firstly, you survived the experience, and you increased in capacity because of it. This will then enable you to enter and possess the land God promised. To be able to possess-you need strength. And this is built through the increase the LORD releases in you because of your obedience to Him.
And then you will be able to remember. (Deut 8:2)You will be able to remember how God led you through that wilderness, for those forty days/nights/months/years whatever season He has placed you in-you will remember and this will cause you to be humble.
That is the purpose of the test-to increase your humility and allow Christ to increase in you, as you become less (John 3:30)-He changes your heart.
In the wilderness, you will hunger-it is a season of waiting and watching and testing and fighting and purging and you need to be fed on the manna the LORD will provide and that is how you will realize, man truly does not live on bread alone but on every Word that comes from the mouth of the LORD. (Matt 4:4)
The difference is now that Word will have become life in your life-and the devil cannot take it from you-because it speaks into your situation-a product of the process-a revelation of His Salvation and when you connect with that in the wilderness-when your faith is tested, and you are confronted, the Word is life-and will keep you protected.
So what is your manna in the wilderness? What is the Word the LORD has given you as nourishment?

Q: How have you been tested in the wilderness?
Tip: anytime you are tested, remember how God has been faithful (Deut 8:2) and give Him praise-this will release faith.

BECOMING CONFIDENT: HOW TO FIND YOUR VOICE

1.                 Express yourself: You have to become comfortable with expression. Expression means to say what you think or mean. How do you do it? Practice listening to your thoughts and rationing them through. Begin to understand your position on certain values-for instance-your position on relationships. This is important because it will enable you to move steadily and consistently towards one direction-this in turn will mold your outlook on life depending on the route you have chosen. Expression is key for this because it builds confidence through action.

2.                 Use your voice: Speak. It’s that simple but also that complicated! You need to become comfortable with the sound of your own voice. A lot of us experience nervousness when we speak in front of a large audience because we are not comfortable with our voice. When you rehearse and practice consistently through expressing yourself with friends, family and even practicing sharing your views-you will become comfortable with the sound of your voice.

3.                 Listen to critique: Don’t be intimated by critique. A lot of us feel destabilized if someone or the other expresses a view we do not necessarily agree with. Don’t feel attacked-listen to what the other person is saying. Hence you will be able to respond. Sometimes it is the cloud of anxiety that makes someone else’s opinion seem more rational than ours. But its not about that-its about being able to express your views clearly and coherently. And how do you this? You listen, you think, you respond.

4.                 Practice consistently: This is so key: practice makes perfect! It truly does! I know from personal experiences speaking I enjoy practice-it prepares you for the climate of people you will be talking to, it enables you to hear the sound of your words and this is so important-words sound a lot different when spoken than when written. So practice to hear your words and see if they carry meaning-do they carry weight? How can you change their posture in the sentence to emphasize meaning?

5.                 Be true to you: Confidence is exuded differently through different people. Don’t feel a particular tone or posture or language is necessary for conveying confidence-you need to find your own sound and remix it! What do I mean? Learn through the steps above what works for you and channel your personality through this position to express your views! This way, you remain true to you and in the process you build your self-confidence in expressing your views.

Q: Like I said earlier, what is your position on relationships/career/purpose-why?
Tip: You need to know where you stand on certain issues and why-this will give you the confidence to be able to speak with certainty from your viewpoint and express your reasons cogently and coherently.
